Design and development of two integrated mobile applications and a cloud infrastructure for the management, monitoring, and predictive maintenance of a new range of professional electric gardening and agricultural machinery.
In the professional gardening and agricultural equipment sector, adopting IoT solutions is no longer optional, it is a strategic lever for delivering smart, connected products that provide a superior user experience for both dealers and end users.
This case study describes how, through the development of two mobile applications and a dedicated cloud infrastructure, we helped a leading Italian industrial group integrate the Internet of Things into a new range of professional electric machinery, introducing smart features, simplifying device management in the field, and generating data to support continuous product optimization.
The Client: A Leading Industrial Group in the Green and Outdoor Power Equipment Sector
The client is a major Italian industrial group engaged in the design and distribution of gardening, agricultural, and forestry machinery worldwide.
The company offers a broad portfolio of solutions, ranging from equipment for home gardening to professional machines for landscaping contractors and specialized operators. As part of its commitment to innovation and sustainability, it recently launched a new line of high-performance electric products designed to combine efficiency, power, and environmental responsibility.
The Challenge: Making a New Range of High-Performance Electric Machinery Smart
With the goal of innovating its product offering and delivering added value to both dealers and end customers, the company launched a new line of high-performance electric machines equipped with brushless motors and next-generation lithium batteries.
To enrich the user experience and simplify equipment management, the need emerged to introduce end-to-end smart functionality:
- the new machines had to be configurable by dealers at the point of sale or during servicing, quickly and with minimal margin for error;
- end users needed real-time access to device status data, preventive maintenance notifications, and the ability to monitor performance directly in the field.
The technical challenge, therefore, went beyond app development: it required building an IoT ecosystem capable of securely and scalably collecting, transmitting, and leveraging the data generated by the machinery.
The Solution: Two Mobile Apps and a Scalable IoT Cloud Platform on AWS
To meet this need, we designed and developed a complete IoT platform consisting of:
- two native mobile applications, one for dealers and one for end users, each with interfaces and features tailored to their respective workflows;
- a scalable cloud infrastructure built on AWS, capable of securely and systematically collecting and analyzing device data through cloud-based dashboards dedicated to product performance analytics.
Key App Features
- Fast device configuration by dealers at the point of sale or during service.
- Real-time monitoring of machine status directly from a smartphone.
- Maintenance notifications and automatic reminders based on actual hours of use.
- Access to manuals and technical documentation, always kept up to date.
- Integrated geolocation, to view the last detected position of each device.
For dealers, the platform has become an advanced configuration and support tool, streamlining day-to-day operations and enabling a more responsive, personalized service. The cloud infrastructure, in turn, enables continuous data flows to be managed and integrated into analytics dashboards, generating insights that drive ongoing improvements in product performance and quality.
The Results: Smart Monitoring, Predictive Maintenance, and Greater Customer Satisfaction
The project transformed an already high-performing product range into intelligent, interconnected solutions, with a direct impact on both operational efficiency and end-customer satisfaction:
- Greater control over the machines for users, thanks to real-time monitoring.
- More effective, predictive maintenance, based on actual usage data rather than generic service intervals.
- More efficient dealer support, thanks to digital configuration and assistance tools.
- A solid, scalable technology foundation, ready to support the future evolution of the product range.
Through this IoT solution, the client strengthened its competitive position in the market, demonstrating its ability to combine deep mechanical engineering expertise with digital innovation, in a gardening and professional agricultural equipment sector that is rapidly shifting toward electric, connected products.
