The Platinum Engine is the platform kernel. Completely developed in J2EE technology, as are all the other components of the platform, it runs the core functionalities and deals with communication management between applications and contents DB.
Managing roles and Operator permissions
- Platinum allows you to define operators groups; for every operator you can specify whether he/she can add, modify, delete, publish and moderate a content.
- With a single Platinum installation it is possible to manage different Internet/Intranet sites using the same administration interface (virtual host).
- It is possible to assign permissions for applications, sites and functions to each operator and the actions he can execute for every application and site.
Managing the user profiles for access to restricted areas
- Platinum natively includes the basic authentication functions to allow registered users to access the site restricted areas and to manage their profiles (registration, management of profile data, password retrieval).
- This function can be enhanced and integrated with an LDAP server (active directory). In this case the user authentication is based on the LDAP repository. You can also choose whether the users goups must be managed by LDAP or by Platinum itself.
- It is also possible to implement an SSO mechanism according to the specific scenario.
Rendering of contents on the graphics template
- Contents can be displayed on-line in any graphics layout, with a look & feel whcih can be different from section to section. A graphics layout is the combination of HTML or XHTML plus CSS style-sheets and any eventual scripts.
- The layouts can also be designed for handheld devices (multi-channel).
- The disjunction between front-end (the site) and contents layer allows you to change the graphics layout at any time, preserving the existing contents.
Content categorisation (tagging)
- With Platinum you can arbitrarily define categories and subcategories, with which the editors can tag the contents they manage.
- Content categorisation can also be useful if you need an advanced website search engine or lists of categorised contents.
Staging
- Distinction between staging and production environment.
- Page Preview: preview of the page during its content editing.
- Submit to production environment is possible for individual nodes and sub-nodes.
Workflow
- Approval flow on the content editing.
- Workflow (WF) approval is based on 2 levels: "Editor" and "Approver".
- WF available at a node level: for each node it is possible to define editors and approvers.
- Dashboard listing all pages to be validated (to-do list).
LOG System
- Platinum stores all visits to each single site page, on a month-basis, in a format which can be easily analysed by the most common access statistical tools.
- Platinum natively includes Webalizer, providing both graphic and numerical statistics.
- If you need to use other tools, you can download from the Platinum archives the access and search log files.
Multilanguage back-end
The Platinum administration tool (back-end), i.e. the operator interface, is a multi-language interface. Thanks to a configuration file (resourceBundle) containing all GUI texts in a specific language, one can translate these texts in any language. A language is associated with the operator profile who can see the Platinum back-end in its associated language. Platinum 4 is provided by default in Italian and English.
